Best Sledding in Rapid City

We've rounded up all the sledding recommendations, tested them out, and narrowed them down! When we made our list, we eliminated any runs that end in the street or parking lots, for obvious reasons!

  • Quarry Park (1102 City Springs Rd)

  • Long smooth run, with plateaus that add variety to the ride for older sledders who start at the top, and also provide a less aggressive starting point for younger sledders. When climbing up, it's easy to find traction, and there are no bumps to trip over.

  • Canyon Lake Park, Shelter #1 (4299 Canyon Lake Dr)

  • Short fast run. Very easy to climb up, due to the stairway with handrails.

  • Meadowbrook (2330 Arrowhead Dr)

  • Long, fast, smooth run; with a tamer run a short walk away (but too far away for a parent to supervise multiple riders of mixed abilities). When climbing up, choose between an extremely icy steep route or a steep, long, and bumpy route.

  • Grandview Dead End (2515 Grandview Dr)

  • Steep, long, and bumpy run due to tall un-mowed grass under the snow. Best after a heavy snow fall. Bring a heavy sled and brave riders! When climbing up, it's easy to find traction but also easy to trip on hidden bumps.

  • Robbinsdale (631 E Oakland St)

  • Sprawling park, with many run options. Relatively short runs, neither smooth nor bumpy. Warning: longer runs intersect with a concrete walking path.
